Board Blog

23-06-2020

Hi dear members,
How are your preparations for the exams going? I’m already studying hard. I also had two deadlines the last few days, so I spent a lot of time on them last week. I also had to provide subtitles for a association’s presentation video for the AID, which I spent a ridiculous amount of time on; it was only a video of a couple minutes, but I spent almost an hour on it :/ Next week is also a festive week: Apollo will celebrate its second birthday this saturday! The weather will be very nice as well, so I am going to enjoy that in my hammock.
This is my last boardblog of this year, so I wish you luck on your exams and a nice summer holiday!
Love, Tessa

Dear members,

The last semester of the year is almost done and that also means the last weeks of a crazy college year. Last week started great with a drink together with the other board members! This week I also enjoyed a few sport classes outside organised by the WUR! I really recommend these classes! Unfortunately the end of the semester also means a higher work pressure and more deadlines. Therefore I wish everyone succes with the the final work!

Noa

Dear members,

Unfortunately the weather got worse last week. I have been at my parents’ home for the last couple of weeks. I went to Wageningen last Friday, where I met a few girls from my rowing team to have dinner and an evening walk. Sunday night I had some drinks with other friends. Yesterday was finally the day that our board got reunited! We ate pizza and had a great evening with lots of fun!

Luckily the weather will get better in the end of this week, so I hope you will enjoy the nice weather again *

Love,
Dafne

Dear members,

Last week I really enjoyed the nice weather. Hopefully you did too. I was home, where I reconnected with many old friends (at 1.5m distance of course). I went to a strawberry drive-in where I spent a little too much money on strawberries, but it was well worth it. I really recommended it! I also had a nice dinner on the beach this weekend and went back to Wageningen on Sunday. Yesterday I ate with my clubmates from KSV and chilled at the Rhine. I’m still working on the uni, but this nice weather makes it more difficult to stay inside …
I recommend everyone to go outside and enjoy the weather, grab a terrace now that it is possible, have a picnic at the Uiterwaarden or take a dip in the Rhine.

Stay safe!
Greetings, Sanne

Dear members,

This week you can vote for the student council! I’m #21 on the list for VeSte, on behalf of Apollo, to help generate votes for them. Are you voting too? For example on Judith Kikkert, #7 on the list. She wants to make sure the Social Sciences get more attention! Furthermore, the new period keeps me busy with fun courses (however, I’m struggling with the Data-Analysis assignments). Together with Economics of Health and Care are these courses a welcome break of the default themes such as diabetes and obesity 🙂 The sun is shining more and more, this makes me happy, I hope it makes you happy too! Good luck coming week, don’t forget to vote and make sure you take enough breaks!

Kind regards, Joann

Dear members,

I hope you’re all doing okay. Everything is still going well with me. This week * surprise surprise * was not very special. Fortunately, a lot more can and can be done slowly but surely. This week started again with a new online period. For our course Data Analysis we have a compulsory practical every Wednesday, which is a bit weird online. At home we started the week with an evening Tour du Chambre, this was super fun. Our theme was countries, so we kind of went on holiday in our own home. Furthermore, I often walked, ran and cycled last week. I am really looking forward to the nice weather next week, hopefully you will enjoy it too!

Hello everyone,
Last week was the last week of period 5 already, which meant that we had exams. At the start of the period, I needed some time to get used to the online education, so I hard to work even harder at the end of the period. I think I managed to pass at least 2 out of 3 exams, and I hope the exams went ven better for you guys. Before us a new period lies ahead, so I promised myself I would keep up with all the lectures, let’s see if I succeed this time. This night, we have an online board meeting planned, and I’m looking forward to seeing the girls again!

I hope to meet you all offline again soon!

Dear Apollo members,

Last week we celebrated Kingsday, for many of us different than usual. This year I went for a stroll in Utrecht with someone from my borrelclub. A different way to experience Kingsday, but I enjoyed it! I also finished my application for my exchange next year! Now I have to wait for more information about my minor period, due to the current circumstances. In the worst case I also have a plan B for the minor period ready! Last week was also the week of preparing for the online examweek. Also for me. This period we will experience how it is to do online exams. Therefore I wish everyone lots of succes with these few last days of the examweek!!

Dear members,

We are already 6 weeks in quarantine at this moment and I get bored more often day by day. Last week I enjoyed a few online game nights, included Apollo’s pubquiz (which was a huge success!). Almost every day I go skating or do a home workout at the attic of my parents home (they made a small gym). The last few days I have been busy finishing deadlines of my courses and watching lectures to prepare for the online exam. Yesterday it was a strange day for the Dutch society. Normally we have ‘Koningsdag’ which means that it is the kings birthday, but yesterday we couldn’t celebrate it as we normally do. We had to stay at home ‘woningsdag’. This felt like a normal day in quarantine for me.

I hope you still enjoyed kingsday and I hope you are doing well in preparing your exams!

Love,
Dafne

Hello dear members,

Today is my day to give you a glimpse into my life. I am currently quarantined at home with my mother and my sister, but next week I will go back to Wageningen. I won’t be able to last longer than two weeks at home;). What I do to prevent boredom is puzzles, walking, facetiming with my friends and family and I recently started painting by number (very nice!). Furthermore, today I stepped out of my comfort zone and dyed my hair … I first had dark brown hair and now ash light blonde / gray. I am also the one who sends you this news email every week, so I am also busy with that. Furthermore, I have already watched too many series on Netflix during quarantine, so that starts to get a bit boring hahaha. I hope you are all doing well and we will see each other again soon. Maybe until April 23 at the pub quiz ?!

Kind regards, Sanne

Dear members,

It’s already the fifth week of the period, on one hand time flies by, but on the other hand it seems like hardly any time is passing by. Behind the scenes we’re working on all kinds of things for Apollo, but I’m looking forward to the day we can have a nice drink again with the association! Last week has been quite a hassle for me, I had to work on several reports, think about a plan B for my minor and all of that during moving. Luckily, I had enough opportunities to enjoy the lovely weather in my backyard 🙂 I’m happy to be back in Wageningen, where, to my surprise, nature decided to bloom beautifully! The look from my window is now a lot greener. I hope you can all hold on and that you’ll be entertaining yourselves with fun activities. Take care of yourselves and hopefully I’ll see you soon!

Kindest regards, Joann

Dear members,

What a strange time we live in right now. Hopefully you’re all doing okay. These weeks do not really deliver the most exciting board blogs. I am mainly chilling with my housmates in Wageningen these weeks. I am trying to keep up the study online as well as possible, but I have to say that the motivation is decreasing more and more because of the nice weather. In the weekends, I am going ‘homehome’ to work there at the Jumbo, where it’s all kind of strange at the moment. Unfortunately, all the board tasks of Apollo kind of stopped. However, we came with the idea of weekly online activities, so keep an eye on the newsmail and our Instagram!

Hello everybody,
I would like to introduce myself to you: I am Tessa and I have been your new commissioner external extern for a little over a month. I am really looking forward to the coming year, although the first few months will be slightly different than usual.
The past week I spent at home with my parents. Beside th fact that I find this quite pleasant, it also saves on costs on groceries :). I also worked extra shifts at my side job in the kruidvat, where it is complete chaos now. Last Friday, there was something nice on the schedule, which was the online vrijmibo drink of SSR-W. Although it cannot be compared with a “real” drink, it was still quite fun!

There are a number of online activities planned in the coming weeks, so I hope to see you all there!

Lots of love,
Tessa

Dear members,

What an weird situation to start period 5 with. Last week was the first week of doing the courses fully online. I hope everyone will get used to it a bit. We as the board of Apollo are disappointed about the the activities that are cancelled due to the coronavirus, but we hope to see you at the next activities of Apollo!

If you don’t know what to do with your time here some advice:
1. Jigsaw puzzle : you can spend a lót of time on this
2. Skype: video chat if you want live conversations with someone!
3. Netflix: no explanation needed 😉
4. Houseparty: App for videochat with games included
5. Netflixparty: while watching a movie on Netflix (synchronised) you can chat with each other!

Noa

Dear members,

Last week was crazy. A week full of stress for exams and stress of corona. On Monday I went to aquafit with some friends. De rest of the week I was learning for my exams. After the exam on Thursday, there where a lot of rumors about the coronavirus and shutting down the university. This meant a lot for the students who still needed to do their exams on Friday who experienced a lot of uncertainty. On Friday I went back home to my parents, where I will probably spend the upcoming time (this will challenge me).

I hope that this period of uncertainty will be over soon, so we can organize a lot of fun activities!

Love,
Dafne

Hello everyone,

For everyone who doesn’t know me yet: I am Sanne, your new secretary of Apollo Wageningen. I am a first-year bachelor student in Health and Society and I am looking forward to the coming year.

Last week I was very busy, but I also had a great time. Monday afternoon I was busy at the university and in the evening I could be found at KSV. On Tuesday I had to go to my compulsory workgroup with a hangover : ‘- ( and in the evening I had the board meeting and the Mercurius constitution drink. This again was very nice. The next day I was in ”het hok” and I worked hard on Apollo related things and the study! In the evening I had a bite to eat at the High Fries activity.

During the weekend I stayed in Wageninen, because I had the parents’ day of my student association! My parents really enjoyed getting to know KSV. Sunday I made an attempt to start learning for my exam.

Good luck with the exams this week. You can do it!
Love,
Sanne

Dear members,

What a week I have had! I started the week with making new board pictures, on Tuesday I celebrated my birthday with friends and we went to Nicolas Appert’s constitution drink which was nice. The next day we had our own GMM and constitution drink. We said goodbye to Ciska and Marieke (as you guessed, this did not happen without some tears), and threw an amazing party at the Woeste Hoeve. Thanks for being there! The next day we had to clean the hok while having a hangover, because the previous board trashed it. At least it’s very clean now! On Friday we continued with the fun stuff: we went to the recordings of “Weet Ik Veel” in Amsterdam with a couple of you. And as if that wasn’t enough fun, I also celebrated my birthday with friends in Groningen last weekend.

All in all a very busy week, in which I changed positions and am now allowed to lead the association. I am looking forward to do more fun things for and on behalf of Apollo. Off to another six months with new adventures!

Love, Joann

Lieve leden,

Ook weer even spannend…

Kusjes jullie Commissaris Educatie

Lieve leden,

Liefs,
Mara

Dear members,

Last week was quite busy, but very nice. Next to some meetings, lectures and training sessions, we’ve had some drinks with the board of Nicholas Appert and afterwards we had a board change party at the Bunker. This was very nice. At Wednesday we’ve been to the Palm indronk with the board, which was a great evening as well. As if I hadn’t missed enough sleep already, I went to the open party at Ceres with some friends. The day afterward I went home quite early and i had a very nice weekend at my parents house. Hope to see you soon!

Love,
Ciska

Dear Apollo members,

Last week was the first week of the second period! Tuesday we had a so called ‘brasbrunch’ with Biologica (if you steal something from a other study association you can ask for a lunch or a drink or what ever). As Commissaris Intern I’m glad that some first year students decided to join the BorrelCie. So Tuesday was also the first meeting of the new commission! There are already a lot of ideas for activities! Wednesday the first meeting for the new LexCie was planned. Everyone seemed enthusiastic about the commisson and they will organise some nice lectures soon! That evening I had a AID reunion with my ‘AID kinderen’ which was a lot of fun! On Thursday the first bachelor ceremony of Apollo this year took place, there was a good atmosphere and everything was well organised! For now, Apollo is looking for some enthousiastic members for the SportCie/Axie. If you’re interested or want more info, you can send an email to internal.apollo@wur.nl

Have a nice week everyone!

Love,

Noa

Hoi allemaal!

Veel succes in periode 2!

Liefs,
Dafne

Dear members,

Last week was the first study week of this academic year, I can say for sure that I have not missed it! This means it was a week with even more coffee as usual to try to stay awake… Because there were no colleges, I had the whole week to prepare for my exams and we decided to have our Board Meeting during lunch in our Hok, for a change. A nice way to take a break from studying! Furthermore, I got to attend an evacuation course on Thursday about what to do in case of emergency during an activity. No worries, you’re in save hands now 😉 A quiet week for Apollo, but a busy one for me. Good luck with your exams this week and see you soon!

Love,

Joann

Dear members,

It is already a while ago that a boardblog appeared on the website or in the newsmail. The boardblogs will still appear in the upcoming year and I have the honour to write the first one of this year. The first period is already coming to an end, I have been so busy and had such a great time that it still feels like the summer ended last week. However, I could already use another holiday!

Last period the Board has been present at many drinks of other associations. Of course our own General Members Meeting and Board change also took place. For me it feels really weird that Milou, Claudia and Dorien left the Board after a year. Luckily, four great new girls joined the Board 😊 Furthermore, we me a lot of new members over the last period, for example on the first years weekend. We also had to look for new committeemembers, because, unfortunately, a lot of committeemembers decided to leave last year. Next period the new committees will start to organise nice activities for you.

For now, good luck with the exams and I hope to see you soon!

Love,

Marieke

Last week was a wonderful week for Apollo. We had a board meeting at my place and that meant I also had to cook. Claudia and cooking is not the best combination, so that resulted in some stressful moments and food that fell apart. Wednesday was our committee drink, to thank everyone for their efforts. After that we all went to the Woeste Hoeve and celebrated the first anniversary of our study association. Other study association boards and a lot of Apollo members were present. As a result, we had an unforgettable evening (if we can remember everything of course). Thank you all for that.
Love,
Claudia

Last week there were a lot of nice activities organised by our committees. I was afraid it was going to rain, but luckily the rain came during the night and not during the activities. On Wednesday we did bubble football. I do not like playing football that much, so I decided to just watch…. But the others had so much fun, I had to join in! There are already some nice photo’s on our Facebook page, so check them out! On Thursday the annual FoodCie festival took place. There were so many food trucks, that is was difficult to decide what to eat. We enjoyed the food, the weather and the company. It was a lovely festival! Again, you can find photo’s of the festival on the Facebook page of the festival.

I hope you have a great week!

Love,

Marieke

Dear members,

Last week was a quiet week due to the long weekend! I stayed at my hometown for a couple of days and enjoyed the nice weather. No Apollo during these days, which is quite relaxing during the busy weeks of period six.

Last Wednesday, Marieke and I had a meeting with the study advisors of BGM & BCL and the programme director. We have this meeting each period and during this meeting we discuss several things that both relate to Apollo as the programme of our study. The study advisors and programme director are very involved and are always willing to help. For example, last week we discussed the AID-study day, whose organization already started! Would you like to help during this day? Please send an email to Apollo.aid@wur.nl

Have a nice week!

Love,

Milou

Time flies! The end of the year is already near and the last activities are coming. Last week was not very busy for Apollo, so I do not have a lot to tell… The week before this week, I enjoyed the sun on a terrace in Leiden with a friend. That was great, so let’s hope we’ll finally get some more sun! Last week there was a nice constitution drink of CODON and upcoming week I hope to see you all at the bubble football and the FoodCie festival 🙂

Love,

Ciska

It’s already the sixth period of the academic year. For me, two difficult courses and the last months of being part of the Apollo board are coming up. In my mind, I’m actually already in Norway, where I’ll be studying for one semester from August on. However, that’s no reason not to enjoy this last period in Wageningen and fully go for it, because there will still be a lot of fun Apollo activities! For example bubble football, a drink for all committee members and of course the party in honour of the first anniversy of Apollo! I hope to see you all there 😊

Love,

Dorien

Last week was a quiet week for Apollo. Fortunately we had come up with something nice ourselves: a date dinner with the board. It was definitely a success! Everyone had a holiday theme and had a lovely diner, a drink and chit-chat a lot. Ever since I am a company emergency worker, I have been fascinated by fire extinguishers and everything that comes with it. That’s why my holiday theme was the first Monday of the month (remember those loud buzzers?). Perfect match for me! During our cosy date dinner I therefore briefly explained how a safe door procedure works during a fire. The ladies from Apollo (and their dates) learned something new that evening. Hopefully you are also learning hard and the exams will come to a good end!

Claudia

Dear members,

Last week is was a busy week for us. At Tuesday we organised our board interest drink. For us this is very important, because we need to find new board members for next year. After the interest drink I had enough time to have a nice dinner with Dorien at the Spot. After I had to go to a drink with the board of study association Semper Florens, we had a great time there. Together we went to the board change of Nitocra.

At Wednesday we organised a career evening. Ciska and Dorien have spent a lot of time in the preparations and it turned out to be a great evening 😊. This weekend it was Easter. I loved the few extra days off and it gave me enough time toe celebrate my birthday together with my friends and family at home.

I hope you also had a good week!

Love,

Marieke

Dear members,

Last week was not a very busy week for Apollo and I could catch up some sleep 🙂 In the weekend, I celebrated my 20th birthday, so that was really nice. At Monday I helped with a walk along day and I suddenly had eleven high school students having lunch in my (not incredibly big) kitchen. It was a nice experience, there were some really interested students and we gave a small presentation for Apollo. In the evening we had our board meeting at Milou. Tuesday the FoodCie organised a High Tea during lunchtime. I helped making some wraps and I really enjoyed some nice food and tea. I think it was a great succes! At Wednesday I joined the excursion from the LexCie to the Mulier Instituut. This was really interesting. In the evening we did our board evaluation. It was a nice evening with our lovely board ;). The rest of the week, I didn’t have any other events for Apollo. I did some studying and went on an excursion to the anatomic museum with one of our courses. I think this was a really nice week!

Love, Ciska

Last week was quite an average ‘’board week’’ I guess. We started the week with our weekly board meeting, where we had a special guest! Also very important: we picked a theme for our ‘’date dinner’’… On Tuesday, we had a drink with the FoodCie and after that, another constitution drink took place, from study association Pyrus this time. It had already been a long time since we visited a constitution drink! Unfortunately I couldn’t make it to the constitution drink myself, because I went to a master open day in Rotterdam (quite a ‘’culture shock’’: students in suits and no separate garbage cans?!). On Wednesday we celebrated Ciska’s birthday and on Thursday we had a nice drink with the board of Heeren 17. After all these days filled with Apollo-activities, my weekend was a bit more relaxing. A little bit of studying and writing assignments, and also meeting with some friends I hadn’t seen in a long time, which was a lot of fun. As I said before, a pretty average week!

Hello, I am back! Last week I tried to study for my exam and some of us followed the preventive burn-out training. It was a nice and quiet week for Apollo, but we needed it. We started a fresh week and made a priority list. Recruiting new board member stands on top of this list. If you are interested come and meet us at the Board Interest Lunch , 27th march C0068!. Looking forward meeting you guys there. Hopefully we can give you an inside in the Apollo board. See you.

Kind regards,

Claudia.

Dear members,

I really don’t want to learn for the exams, so I am procrastinating by writing this board blog. Last week was a fun week for us. While some of you were playing ‘knotsbal’ with the SportCie. Milou, Ciska and I went to the General Members meeting of Mercurius Wageningen. Milou was attending as a special guest, but Ciska and I were joining as members….. It does feel kind of weird, being member of one study association and doing a Board year at another one. Attending the GMM had a good reason, uptill Tuesday I was still member of the First Years Committee. I haven’t done any tasks for this committee since the first years weekend, but officially I was still part of the committee. Tuesday I was officially discharged as committee members, maybe right now it is time to stop being a member of Mercurius….

After the GMM we quickly changed and as the Board of Apollo we went to the constitution drink. Our complete Board was present, which is of course always fun. Maybe I stayed a little to long at the drink and the next day I did have some regrets. I hope the EJC hasn’t noticed when I showed up at their meeting 😉.

Right now it really is time to start to learn for the exams…. Good luck with your exams this week!

Love,

Marieke

Dear members,

Here it is. My first board blog. Last week was a busy week. Monday we had 3 meetings, which was quite exhausting actually… At Tuesday we organized a potluck dinner for the master students. There were 7 masters and it was really nice. Everyone made great food. The best were the desserts. Two Italian students made amazing tiramisu and another chocolaty dessert. And then there was the warm apple pie, so good! The next day the first years committee organized a sushi workshop, so after I went to a sales workshop for my function, I went to steal some pieces of sushi of course. And I was as lucky to make a sushi roll myself as well. The rest of the week, I went to two lectures (one organized by our own Lexcie 🙂 ), we had a nice dinner with Mercurius, we went to two board changes and we did serious things like searching out the summaries at the website. At Friday afternoon I went disco rollerskating with Mercurius. This was a lot of fun!

Love,

Ciska

My first board blog…

While flying back from my short visit to Sofia, I keep thinking about last week. It was a week full of new experiences. Visiting Bulgaria for the first time, passing my epidemiology exam for the first time (maybe this is the most important one?!), and of course, my first board blog…

Besides this, the last weeks were also full of reflection about Apollo. New, fun ideas also come with new tasks. Plus, the General Members Meeting Apparently is all of a sudden very close! Apparently we’re never done improving our study association, which is a good thing of course. Nothing wrong with a little perfectionism! Although, being away for a few days gave me a lot of creativity and ideas for Apollo. I hope you all had such a useful week as me!

Dear members of Apollo,

Last week Marieke and I visited the AID-drink. Here they announced the theme for the upcoming study year. We were totally surprised and had no idea what to expect from this evening. Eventually we ended up with Codon (study association of biotechnology). As some of you may have noticed, we have a lot in common and go very well together. Therefore we organized a special Codon-Apollo evening to get to know each other even better. After a fully scheduled week with multiple board changes and kind of panic for upcoming exams I decided to take a little break. A weekend off to ski will do the trick. Fully recovered and relaxed, I’m back for business for Apollo, exams and work. I did not pass all of my exams due to my full schedule, so I also have to prepare for the resit exams of February. Try to be positive, a second chance is there for you to grab, so take it! I’m actually looking forward to the exams, kind of strange isn’t it.

Good luck for the coming exams! On our website you can find multiple resumes of different courses, just to make life a little bit easier.

Kind regard,

Claudia

Hello dear members,

This week it is my turn to write the boardblog. Altough I have enough to write about, I still find it difficult to write this blog.
The past week, the whole board needed a while to recover from the boardweekend. Unfortunately, we did not have the time for that. On Monday, Milou and I had to attend a meeting with the other study associations. Which was of course very useful. After that we had drinks on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with the board of some other study associations. They were a lot of fun and we got to know the boards even better.

Beside the board activities, Wednesday the first Apollo activity of 2019 took place, a lecture organized by the Lecture. The lecture was giving by an employee of the GGD. She told about the new Environmental code. I found the lecture very interesting, I hope you found it interesting as well!

Dear members,

Last weekend, the board of Apollo has been on a boardweekend at the beautiful surroundings of Drenthe. We have thought about our new policy for the upcoming six months. On both the long and short term you will hear and see more of our new plans and ideas, of which this ‘bestuursblog’ is one of them. Every week, another board member will write something about the state of affairs within Apollo or of a fun activity.

During the weekend there has also been time for a fun activity, in addition to serious meetings: bowling! I am delighted to share that I’ve won the bowl game and that I’m very pleased that the rest of the board members are handling their tasks within Apollo much better than they have talent for bowling.

Love,

Milou
